A notch in Roaring River Dam allows water to lower

description

Summary

A notch in Roaring River Dam allows water to lower so work crews can remove the low head dam to restore the stream Aug. 1, 2017. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is removing the dam, built in 1976 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District. The dam was at risk of failure and the Corps of Engineers determined that it would be better to remove the dam as it was no longer needed as a fish barrier on the Cumberland River tributary. Partners in the joint effort to remove the dam include TWRA, Corps of Engineers, The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, and Southern Aquatic Resources Partnership.
