This illustration entitled, "A Popular New York Song", by cartoonist Clifford Berryman, which appeared in the Washington Post on October 17, 1904, show both candidates for Governor of New York, Lieutenant Governor Frank Higgins as a Republican, and Judge D. Cady Herrick, as a Democrat, basing their campaign's on honesty, rooting out corruption and unnecessary expenditures at the state level, regardless of backing.
