A U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One prepares to drop an M777 towed 155 mm howitzer during assault support tactics 2, an exercise in support of Weapons and Tactics Instructor course 2-18 at Fire Base Burt, Chocolate Mountain Aerial Gunnery Range, Calif., April 18. AST-2 is an exercise focused on executing a duel-site, simultaneous night raid with a company sized element that integrates combined arms using the six functions of Marine Aviation. WTI is a seven-week training event hosted by MAWTS-1 cadre, which emphasizes operational integration of the six functions of Marine Corps aviation in support of a Marine Air Ground Task Force and provides standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications to support Marine Aviation Training and Readiness and assists in developing and employing aviation weapons and tactics.
