Summary

This is the 2nd town hall. The first was a combined town hall/police station/jail/fire hall on King William St. that was opened in 1836. They moved to a site on James Street North in 1839. It was a combined Market Hall (also used as a theatre) and town offices. In 1846 when Hamilton was incorporated as a city was the first time it was called City Hall. This photograph shows the City Hall with the new tower which was put on in 1872 [some said to help the older building remain standing]...023-32022194823122
