Summary

Yarrow. Native. Not Native. There is more to this plant than you think. It is native throughout the northern hemisphere, but as one might suppose there are molecular differences among those locations. Here, in North America, you can get the European variety, the North American variety, and hybrids there of. In the Mid-Atlantic I have noticed that it isn't that attractive a plant for bees, yes there are some, but largely it is ignored. I talk to other hunters of bees on flowers and they tell tales of an abundance of bee visitations. Could be poor observation skills by us collectors, local conditions, or perhaps the impact of where it has come from makes a difference. Specimens and photos by Helen Lowe Metzman.

We Are Made One with What We Touch and See
We are resolved into the supreme air,
We are made one with what we touch and see,
With our heart's blood each crimson sun is fair,
With our young lives each spring impassioned tree
Flames into green, the wildest beasts that range
The moor our kinsmen are, all life is one, and all is change.
