Hippolyte Arnoux (1826-1892) was a French photographer and publisher who played an important role in the development of photography in France in the 19th century. He was born in Marseille and moved to Paris in the 1850s, where he opened a photographic studio. Arnoux was one of the first photographers to use the wet collodion process, which allowed for sharper and more detailed images. Arnoux was also a publisher and produced a number of photographic albums, including "Les Pyrénées Photographiées" (The Pyrenees Photographed), which featured images of the Pyrenees taken by various photographers. He also published a series of albums with images of Paris, including "Paris Guide" and "Paris Monumental et Pittoresque". Arnoux was a member of the Société Française de Photographie and exhibited his work at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867 and 1878. He was awarded a gold medal for his photography at the Universal Exhibition in 1889. Arnoux died in Paris in 1892, but his legacy lives on through his photographic work and publications, which provide a valuable insight into life in 19th century France.
