Altobello Melone (c. 1490/1491-1543) was an Italian Renaissance painter from Cremona. He is sometimes known as Altobello da Melone. Melone worked in the early 16th century and was associated with the Lombard school of painting. Unfortunately, not much is known about Melone's life and there are few surviving works that can be definitively attributed to him. However, some art historians believe that he may have been a pupil of the prominent Lombard painter Antonio da Correggio, as there are stylistic similarities between their works. One of the most important works associated with Altobello Melone is the altar-piece "Madonna with Child and Saints" in the church of San Sigismondo in Cremona. This altarpiece reflects the influence of Correggio's style in terms of composition and the use of light and colour. Despite the limited information available on Altobello Melone, his contributions to the Lombard school of painting during the Renaissance are recognised and his works are appreciated for their grace and harmonious composition.
