An Afghan National Army soldier takes copious notes in class during a literacy program at the Joint Security Academy Southwest at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, Oct. 7. Afghan noncommissioned officers are continuing their education in a literacy program, designed to turn ANA and Afghan National Police students into more educated leaders, at JSAS. The Afghan students are learning how to read and write basic English and Pashtun, as well as studying a number of ethics, history and military topics.
