Atlantic Ocean (Jul. 19, 2005) An E-2C Hawkeye, assigned to the Bear Aces of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron One Two Four (VAW-124), prepares to launch from the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). The Bear Aces are embarked aboard Theodore Roosevelt as part of Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW-8). Roosevelt is currently underway for Joint Task Force Exercise (JTFEX) in the Atlantic Ocean. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
