Murphy Combat Training Pool onboard Naval Station Newport, R.I., explains the third class swim qualification criteria to Navy ROTC Midshipmen during sea trials. Sea trials are a 10-day event where Midshipmen must perform a series of scenarios and properly demonstrate the skills they have developed throughout their training to test them under pressure as they demonstrate proficiencies in physical fitness, watch standing, seamanship, firefighting, damage control and swimming.
