Andesite is a form of volcanic rock. Andesite is also a "populated place" 17 mi. beyond Weed, CA along the SP mainline to Oregon. Roger Puta shot these at Andesite Siding during a sunset in February 1979. Front of the train.

Mt. Shasta is the high peak in Roger's photos and Shastina is the lower peak to the right. BTW, Mt. Shasta last erupted in 1786.
