Ancient Turkish bridge in southern Albania that had to be reconstructed during the great war because the early Romans and Turks did not look ahead and visualize the 20th. Century with its motor transportation. It was used continuously by the Italians when they were massing thousands of troops at Valona and Kortiza. In order to accommodate sic motor trucks and heavy artillery they built it up as may seen in the picture and lessened the sharp ascent and descent. Although centuries od it withstood remodelling and the consequent strain put upon it. The American Red Cross camion at the top is on its way with relief supplies for the destitute war sufferers of Kortiza
