LIBRARYUHlVERSrfv of ILLINOIS John B. Stetson University. General Statement. JOHN B. STETSON UNIVERSITY received itscharter from the Legislature of the State of Floridain 1887. The founders believed that there was a de-mand in this state for a Christian school that would of-fer to both young men and young women a collegiatetraining equal in breadth and thoroughness to the bestgiven in our country. From the beginning to the pres-ent this belief has controlled the policy of the institution.An Academy has been built up in which students mayfully prepare for the freshman class of any American col-lege. The Academy also provides for those who desirea general literary and scientific training. The College ofLiberal Arts provides a curriculum of four years leadingto the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Philos-ophy and Bachelor of Science. After the first two yearsall subjects are elective, permitting the student to modifyhis course in accordance with taste or purposes. In addi-tion to
