1903 The Northern Nickel Range 209 Sultana Mine—Fairbank Lake The nickel-bearing eruptive is fairlywell exposed for a width of aboutthree miles and a half between Sultanamine and the north end of Fairbanklake in the townships of Drury andFairbank, though drift deposits covermuch of the section southwest of thelake. Near the Chicago mine, but aquarter of a mile to the north, thebasic edge of the eruptive showsagainst rocks having the appearance ofJduronian schists and eruptives. It ishere a rather dark gray dioritic-lookingrock of medium grain, quite differentin appearance from the very dark, al-most black, variety seen near Murraymine, riot only as to color but in thelack of the blue quartz blebs, and thelarge scales of biotite so characteristicfarther east. A thin section might easily be takenfor one of diorite, since it consistsmainly of plagioclase and hornblendewith smaller amounts of quartz andbiotite and possibly some orthoclase.However, the hornblende is clearly sec-ondary in
