Summary
Anti-suffrage activists Josephine Pearson and Nina Pinckard pose with a Confederate veteran outside the entrance to their movement's headquarters within the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. This photo was taken days before Tennessee ratified the 19th Amendment. The Confederate flag and other symbols communicate the role of anti-Black racism in the anti-suffrage movement.
