The slight irregularities aresoftened by the warmly toned wash andgive a pleasing natural te.xture. The steep roof is covered with red tile July, 1930 AUCHITLCT AND LNGINEER, 63 shingles that give a bright but harmon-ious contrast to the grayish green foliageof the trees. The surfaces of walls are broken by thewindows with their renaissance frames, andthe roof is lightened and given interest bythe dormers and chimneys. The detail of the exterior which makesuse of renaissance motives and ornament, phones, etc., placed near the entrance, arereadilv accessible and easily found withoutobtruding so much as to suggest a hotel. Asone enters the lobby he looks directly intothe reception room, catching glimpses ofthe woods beyond through the great baywindow. Opening off the lobby are alsothe accessories, two small reception roomsfor intimate conversation, and the offices of

Gutterson, Architect opens the way for the introduction of sev-eral periods of French furniture within.Mrs. Vernita Seeley, as interior decorator,assisted by Miss Helen Gatch, with the co-operation of a sympathetic furnishing com-mittee, has succeeded in bringing out thefine details and proportions and in accentu-ating the homelike aspect of the rooms.The furnishings are in modified Empireand Directoire styles. The interior spaces open up well and theaccessories, such as information desks, tele- the administration staff. Access is also hadto the elevators and stairways. Passing onone comes to the auditorium, a very statelyroom featured by high impressive windowsand equipped for services, lectures andconcerts. The fifth floor is featured very approp-riately, as there is a fine view from this floorand it has an unusually warm and sunnyexposure.
