Army Corps of Enigneers members aboard a skiff and the Puget, a 104-foot long debris recovery vessel, prepared to deploy of 300 foot section of boom during a joint spill exercise off Blake Island, Wash., June 6, 2017.
Boom is a temporary floating barrier that is used to contain a spill, to reduce the possibility of a spill reaching shorelines and to concentrate oil in a thicker surface layer to imporve the effectiveness of skimmers, vaccums and other collection methods.
