Army Maj. Bryant Schumacher, the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan Recruiting Assistance team chief, speaks at a recruiting leadership conference, Feb. 16. It was attended by over 200 tribal elders, mullahs and members of parliament from Kapisa province in eastern Afghanistan. The conference was conducted by the Afghan national army recruiting command, which successfully gained 113 recruits for the ANA and three for the Afghan national police in Kapisa last month. The goal is to reach an end-strength for the ANA of 80,000 soldiers by December 2008.
