Summary

Army Sgt. Robert W. McCarville of Beloit, Wis., was laid to rest Nov. 9 in Beloit after his remains were identified more than 75 years after his death during the Battle of Buna in World War II. McCarville joined the Wisconsin National Guard’s 32nd Infantry Division in 1940 and was killed in New Guinea Dec. 5, 1942; he rested unknown in Manila American Cemetery until his remains were identified via DNA analysis conducted by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.
