Arthur Henri Poole - August 12, 1937
Summary
An unusual photo in our collections - this unidentified woman was photographed for a Dr. J.C. Walsh, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary specifically to show the effects of Pellagra. This disease is caused by a lack of the vitamin Niacin, and skin problems are the most common symptom...This photo is very much of its time - cannot imagine a doctor nowadays sending a photographer around to take photos of a patient outside her own front door, or indeed a patient agreeing to be photographed in such a way!..paddyhickey ( 57147524@N05/ ) kindly contributed the following:."My elderly Aunt - born in Clonmel in 1935 - tells me that she is almost certain the woman in question is Mrs Casey from Garrymore..."..Date: Thursday, 12 August 1937..NLI Ref.: P_WP_4220 ( P_WP_4220 )
