Summary

Australian Defence Force Flying Officer Timothy Lowther (right), Operations Officer of No. 81 Wing Headquarters, assists U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Chad Thompson, with 51st Fighter Wing Public Affairs Officer, from Osan Air Base, South Korea, at the front desk of Task Unit Headquarters (North), during Talisman Sabre 2011. During Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011, Lowther is kept busy as operations officer at the Task Unit Headquarters (North) at Royal Australian Air Force Base Darwin. As an interface between the flying units and ground-based components and logistics, Lowther operates in a busy environment where multitasking and time management skills help ensure that information is received, processed and relayed to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner. Task Unit Headquarters (North) is a busy logistical hub, which helps ensure that diverse aspects of the exercise integrate successfully. Talisman Sabre 2011 is a combined U.S. and Australian exercise aimed at improving combat training, readiness and interoperability across the spectrum of military operations, including conventional conflict, peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance efforts. The exercise forms part of the Australia Defence Forces' extensive training program, which is aimed at ensuring preparedness for any future deployment and ensuring Australian and U.S. military forces can work together effectively and safely. Around 22,000 Australian and U.S. personnel will participate in Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011. (Photo by ADF Cpl. Mark McConnell)
