Austria Post Office Jerusalem 1880
Summary
Photograph taken in 1880 showing the Austro-Hungarian post office in Jerusalem. The horse-drawn carts, also bearing the inscription K. K. Oesterr. Post (for "Imperial and Royal Austrian Post") were probably used to transport the mail from Jerusalem to Jaffa, where steamers from Austrian Lloyd (Lloyd Austriaca) would transport it to Trieste or another Mediterranean port.
