Pacific Ocean (Oct. 26, 2005) Aviation Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Shantell Robinson monitors arresting gear pressure gauges aboard the conventionally powered aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). Kitty Hawk's arresting gears control the recovery of aircraft landing on the flight deck, bringing them to a halt within 120 feet. While at sea, Kitty Hawk and Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG-5) will participate in an annual exercise with the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force.
