description

Summary

A B52-H Stratofortress lands at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., after a nonstop sortie from the United States to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility Aug. 12, 2014. The 15.5-hour long-range intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission, flown by a seven-person aircrew from Barksdale's 96th Bomb Squadron, was part of a scenario to defend the Panama Canal from myriad threats during PANAMAX 2014. A U.S. Southern Command-sponsored event, forces from 17 nations participated in PANAMAX, which contributes to interoperability, and builds the capabilities of participating nations to plan and execute complex multinational operations. For Air Force Global Strike Command, the live-fly exercise sortie was an opportunity to familiarize aircrews with the U.S. Southern Command region, exercise aerial command and control procedures, and hone ISR capabilities.
