Beohar Dynasty Temple HanumanTal

description

Summary

Historic RadhaKrisna temple-complex established by the Beohar-dynasty in 17-18th century C.E. in the HanumanTal ward of Jubbulpore / Jabalpur (India). Against the social norms that prevailed in 19th century C.E., this became one of the first temples in India to be opened to all members of the community in 1928-29 regardless of caste, creed or religion. In the presence of his friends Ghanshyam Das Birla and Jamnalal Bajaj, Beohar Raghuvir Simha declared his temple open to all. Four years later, inspired by this social reform, Mahatma Gandhi undertook his famous Harijan Yatra and came to this temple to worship in December 1933 along with Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Thakkar Bapa and others. Temples have since been under Sri Radhakrisna Private Trust with Beohar Dr Anupam Sinha as its current Managing-Trustee.
