Sgt. 1st Class Kris Alvey (right) of Goose Creek, S.C., 1-178th Field Artillery Battalion, South Carolina Army National Guard, was awarded the Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal by Capt. Chris G. Neeley (left) for exceptional volunteer service to the Afghan people while serving with the South Carolina Army National Guard in Afghanistan. Alvey voluntered more than 100 hours of his time to help distribute clothes, shoes and school supplies to hundreds of poverty stricken Afghan children. Alvey was awarded the Military Outstanding Volunteer award during a ceremony, July 27, at Camp Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan.
