Bess Horse and New Zealand trooper

A New Zealand mounted rifleman with full equipment. The horse he is riding is 'Bess', mount of Colonel Guy Powles, and the only New Zealand horse to return from the First World War. She left New Zealand with the NZEF in October 1914, and served in Egypt, Sinai, Palestine, France, Germany and England until 1920, when she was returned to New Zealand.
