Summary
Significance: The Bethel Baptist Church was depicted as a wood frame structure in an 1885 lithograph of Tallahassee. Prior to the turn of the century, the present brick veneer building was constructed on the site, possibly around the 1870 frame structure. A significant example of 19th century religious architecture of a black congregation, the church was the 20th century setting for civil rights organization by Martin Luther King.
