Mike A. Glasch serves as a public affairs specialist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Omaha District, a position he has held since July 2017. During his current assignment, Mr. Glasch has been an invaluable asset in telling the USACE story of disaster relief efforts, having deployed to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2017, and to North Carolina after Hurricane Florence in 2018.
Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Glasch held a variety of public affairs positions throughout the Department of Defense. From February 2007 to July 2017, he served as a print and broadcast journalist with the Fort Jackson, S.C., public affairs office. During that time Mr. Glasch deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel; serving as the Public Affairs Officer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Transatlantic Afghanistan District from April 2015 to May 2017; and the Public Affairs Officer for the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan from February 2014 to July 2014. From March 2006 to February 2007, Mr. Glasch served as a journalist for the Fort McPherson, Ga., public affairs office.
Prior to his civilian service with the Department of the Army, Mr. Glasch served on active duty as a public affairs specialist with the VII Corps public affairs office, followed by the Fort McClellan, Ala., public affairs office. During his military service, Mr. Glasch was deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Upon completion of his military service, Mr. Glasch enjoyed a 10-year career in television news. He worked as a producer and executive producer in various newsrooms in the southeast. While working as producer in Jackson, Miss., Mr. Glasch was the lead member of a team that produced award-winning newscasts during Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Glasch is an alumnus of Louisiana State University and the University of Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. He is a native of Burbank, Ill.
Mr. Glasch’s civilian awards include seven Department of the Army level Keith L. Ware awards, for both broadcast and print – including Civilian Broadcast Journalist of the Year (2013) and Civilian Print Journalist of the Year (2007) – and a Department of Defense Thomas Jefferson award. His work has also been recognized in the commercial news industry; 2014 South Carolina Press Association – Feature story (third place); 2005 Mississippi Associated Press – Spot News (first place), Special Achievement (second and third place) and Best Newscast (second place); and 1995 Gold Medal for Sports Reporting from the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters.
His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal (w/ oak leaf cluster), National Defense Medal, Southwest Asia Medal (w/ 3 bronze stars), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) and Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait).
