Francis Bruguiere's early work focused on the natural world, with a particular interest in the abstract patterns and shapes found in nature. He also experimented with photograms, a technique in which objects are placed directly on photographic paper to create abstract images. In the 1910s and 1920s, Bruguiere became involved with the modernist movement in photography, which emphasised experimentation and abstraction. He worked closely with other modernist photographers such as Edward Steichen and Alfred Stieglitz. Bruguiere's most famous series of photographs is his "Machine Age" series, which features abstract images of machines and industrial objects. These images were created using multiple exposures and other experimental techniques. In addition to his photographic work, Bruguiere also worked as a filmmaker, making experimental films that were shown at avant-garde film festivals. Bruguiere died in 1945 at the age of 66. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Modern in London.
