Brig. Gen. Jemal J. Beale, The Adjutant General of New Jersey, introduces the guest speakers at the New Jersey National Guard’s Black History Month celebration at the Joint Military and Family Assistance Center, Bordentown, N.J., Feb. 14, 2019. This year’s observance included presentations by Dr. Connie Goddard and John Medley on the Manual Training and Industrial School located in Bordentown. The all black school, often referred to as the Tuskegee of the North, was founded in 1886 and closed in 1955. It became a National Historic Landmark on Jan. 5, 1998. Black History Month recognizes the heritage and achievements of African Americans in both the military and in society. (New Jersey National Guard photo by Mark C. Olsen)
