Summary

Building #598 at Camp Santiago Joint Training Center, Salinas, Puerto Rico was dedicated to Col (ret) Milagros Bonilla, US Army Nurse, in a ceremony that marked a unique and rare occasion in which an Army landmark is dedicated to a living Soldier. Due to her successful military career, that spanned almost three decades, and her outstanding service, commitment and exemplary life, the US Army deemed proper to authorize the dedication of the building. The process for approval took three long years.
Bonilla joined the Puerto Rico Army National Guard in 1972 serving for 28 years as a nurse and becoming the first women in attaining the rank of Colonel in the organization on November 1995.
Her leadership, candor and fearless spirit was put to test during the mobilization of the 201st Medical Evacuation Hospital for Operations Desert Shield/ Desert Storm in November 1990. She was one of 32 officers and 118 enlisted females from the PRARNG to mobilize during the conflict.
Bonilla continues to contribute to younger generations as a Nursing Science Professor at Metropolitan University.

El edificio 598 del Centro de Adiestramiento Conjunto Campamento Santiago, Salinas, fue dedicado a la Coronel (retirada) Milagros Bonilla, Enfermera del Ejército de EEUU, en una ceremonia que marcó una ocasión única en la que un edificio militar es dedicado a un Soldado aún vivo. Debido a su exitosa carrera militar, que cubrió cerca de tres décadas, su servicio excepcional, Compromiso y vida ejemplar, el Ejército de los EEUU entendió que era propio autorizar la dedicación del edificio. El proceso de aprobación tomo tres largos años.
Bonilla ingresó a la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico en el año 1972 y sirvió por 28 años como enfermera llegando a ser la primera mujer en la Organización en obtener el rango de Coronel en noviembre de 1995.
