Capital Shield 2013 is a regional training exercise

description

Summary

Capital Shield 2013 is a regional training exercise coordinated by Joint Force Headquarters - National Capital Region in coordination with its Department of Defense, federal and interagency partners to train on essential defense support to civil authorities' tasks within the National Capital Region. The exercise took place Oct. 9 -12 at several locations in the NCR, including the D.C. Fire Department Blue Plains Training Academy in Washington, D.C. This annual training exercise improves the readiness and interagency cooperation of DoD and local agencies to test operability for an event impacting the area and to provide appropriate training on force protection measures during the 2013 presidential inauguration. During the exercise, soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen participate in a series of emergency exercises including mock rescues, triage and medical treatment to ensure government agencies at every level are ready to protect the public in the event of an actual disaster in the NCR.
