CARIBBEAN SEA (Jul. 03, 2007) U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) Capt. Craig Shepherd, an environmental health officer aboard the Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), and Capt. Bruce Boynton, Medical Treatment Facility commanding officer, promote PHS Lt. Cmdr. Jennifer Tredway, a surgical nurse attached to Comfort. The ceremony was the first of its kind at sea for the PHS. Comfort is on a four-month humanitarian deployment to Latin America and the Caribbean to provide medical treatment to approximately 85,000 patients in a dozen countries. While deployed, Comfort is under operational control of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command and tactical control of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 24.
