description

Summary

Capt. Robert A. Hall, commanding officer of amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), introduces guest speaker and USS Arizona survivor Lauren F. Bruner, during an all-hands call in the ship's hangar bay. Bruner joined the U.S. Navy in 1938 just after his 18th birthday and is one of 10 remaining survivors from USS Arizona, which was sunk during the World War II attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. America is the first ship of its class and the fourth to bear the name. It replaces the Tarawa-class of amphibious assault ship as the next generation “big-deck” amphibious assault ship and is optimized for aviation and capable of supporting current and future aircraft such as the MV-22 Osprey and F-35B Joint Strike Fighter.
