Summary

Three shots from Tipperary on this week of all weeks may appear more than coincidence, but we had these lined-up several weeks ago. The subject of today's image is Nenagh, the town of the fair, with its great Butler tower and wide streets...Today's contributors provide a depth of information on these three buildings on Nenagh's Castle (later Pearse) Street:.- #52 is Hodgins and Company, grocers ( http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tipperary/Nenagh_West_Urban/Castle_Street___Pt__of_/820710/ ) (#52 is now part of a bank building).- #51 is Day's Stationers, with perhaps Mr Day himself and one of his daughters ( http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tipperary/Nenagh_West_Urban/Castle_Street___Pt__of_/820709/ ) captured in the doorway and window (#51 is now also part of a bank building).- #50 is a Gentleman's Club (now Dún Mhuire of Conradh na Gaeilge ( https://cnag.ie/en/info/the-irish-language/irish-language-centres/523-d%c3%ban-mhuire.html ) ).There seems to be general consensus that, based on businesses and products captured by French in this scene, that it likely dates to c.1905 (give or take a few years)......Photographer: Robert French..Collection: Lawrence Photograph Collection ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Collection/vtls000313414 ) ..Date: between c.1865-1914. Though likely c.1905..NLI Ref: L_ROY_09669 ( vtls000318138 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
