astic letter:Crescent City, Fla., July 13, 1896.I have been very much interested in what vouhave published regarding the Philafrican Libera-tors League. For more than thirty years—from1852 to 18S4—I was engaged in missionary work onthe West Coast of Africa, at Sherbro and SierraLeone, for twenty-four years, with the Mendi Mis-sion of the American Missionary Association, andalter that in Freetown, Sierra Leone, with the ChurchMissionary Society. 1 was the Industrial Agent ofthe mission, and in 1866 and 67 I built a saw-mill ata station in the interior, on the i.arg. o River, andalso planted a coffee farm. These industries weresuccessful, and exerted a great civilizing influencein the country. I often, while there, thought of justsuch an enterprise for that place as is now beingplanned. It is an excellent country, and roomenough to locate many thousands of liberated ones,giving each land enough for a good home. Theplace can be easily reached at all times1 v vesselsascendingthe I.ar-
