Circular from American Anti-Slavery Society, Boston, [Mass.], Sept[ember] 1, 1861

description

Summary

On behalf of the American Anti-Slavery Society, William Lloyd Garrison, Wendell Phillips, and Samuel May, Jr. address the recipient of this circular concerning the financial health of the society during the economic hardship brought on by the Civil War, stating that the Executive Committee is forced to entertain seriously the necessity of discontinuing the "National Anti-Slavery Standard". The American Anti-Slavery Society announces that, in the spirit of sacrifice, their own Editors and agents have willingly accepted a diminution of their salaries to help ensure the survival of the newspaper, and issues the call for contributions, donations, or subscriptions to ensure that they may continue to publish it.
