COAST GUARD CUTTER HEALY (WAGB 20)
Summary
St. John's Bay, Newfoundland (June 4) -- Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB-20) moored at St. John's Bay before her maiden voyage home to Seattle. The Healy, the first polar capable Coast Guard icebreaker built since the 1970s is the largest in the fleet at 420 feet and 16,000 tons. Launched in 1998, the icebreaker employs the power to brake 4.5 feet of ice at three knots continuously -- or up to eight feet by ramming. USCG photo by PA3 Jaime Bigelow
