BURLINGTON, Vt.- With the air temperature hovering around negative 4F degrees, an ice rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Burlington walks out on ice-covered Lake Champlain during an ice rescue familiarization drill, Friday, Jan. 16, 2009. The crewmembers spread out across the ice to distribute their weight more evenly to help prevent the ice from cracking. The water temperature was 33F degrees.
