Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay
Summary
MCKINNLEYVILLE, Calif. (Jan. 27, 2009)- Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay, located on the north peninsula between the bay and the Pacific Ocean, is responsible for more than 5,000 square miles of waters along the northern California Coast. The station building was originally built in the 1800's for the Life Saving Service, which is evident in rails that run from the station building into the bay. The rails were used to roll the old rowboats into and out of the water for quick rescues. (Coast Guard photo/ Petty Officer Kevin J. Neff)
