Col. Walton Nichols, who commanded Volk Field Air National Guard Base from 1980-1984, was honored during a June 13 memorial service at Volk Field, Wis., with his name emblazoned on a static display Air Force F-102. Nichols, who passed away March 27, 2013, is credited with significant upgrades to the Air National Guard base that resulted in its expanded use as a training facility.
