Colonel Peter Baumgarten, the incoming commanding officer of 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, salutes during the national anthem during a change-of-command ceremony at Camp Horno, June 8. Baumgarten came to one of the most illustrious regiments in the Corps from U.S. Northern Command and relieved Col. David Furness. Furness will be transferring to Quantico, Va., to begin his next assignment as the director of Expeditionary Warfare School. In September of 2010, Furness led 1st Marines forward to Afghanistan and commanded Regimental Combat Team 1 throughout their yearlong deployment.
