Crew members aboard Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw hook the ice-covered Mackinac Bridge Lighted Bell Buoy 3 in the Straits of Mackinac Dec. 11, 2013 as they prepare to decommission the buoy for the winter season. An early start to the ice season means the crew of Mackinaw has to race to complete Operation Fall Retrieve before the ice floes set firm and damage the navigational buoys.
