KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- The crew members of space shuttle mission STS-120 prepare for their return to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston following three days of terminal countdown demonstration test, or TCDT, activities. All seven crew members are departing from Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility aboard two-passenger T-38 jet aircraft. Summary

E-1441 Viewed in this 1954 photograph is the NACA High Speed Flight Research Station's D-558-2 #2 (144), an all rocket powered Skyrocket. Like the X-1, the D-558-2 had a fuselage shaped like a .50 caliber bullet. Unlike both the X-1 and the D-558-1, it had swept wings.
