Arthur Henri Poole - December 11, 1921
Summary
Mr Murray's theatrical group, all dressed up to perform The Runaway Girl pictured at the rear of City Hall/Theatre Royal on The Mall in Waterford - thanks to desmondg47 for identifying the location for us! - and thanks to him also for further historical background on this building/complex. Apparently, it was "originally built as an Assembly Rooms to the design of John Roberts in 1783/8."..Checked many newspapers in and around this date, but could find nothing further on this performance. The Runaway Girl follows the adventures of an English woman who takes up with Italian bandits masquerading as musicians. The usual cast includes the keeper of a tea house, Corsican consul, an entomologist, a Cook's tourist, a jockey, a maid and an orphan, but it looks as if the wardrobe person cast the net a little wider in this instance, as many theatrical genres are represented here. Not quite sure where the matador fits in.....Date: Tuesday, 11 December 1921..NLI Ref.: P_WP_2970 ( P_WP_2970 )
