Summary

Dennis Murphy, photographer, teaches Rct. Trevon K. Brunson, right, how to inspect recruits’ uniforms before Rct. Harlin A. Terry’s first official Marine Corps photo Oct. 22, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Both recruits are with Platoon 1102, Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. This photo is normally identified as a Marine’s official Marine Corps photo and has been taken in training since the 1950’s. Brunson, 18, from Brooklyn, N.Y., and Terry, 18, from Atlanta, are scheduled to graduate Dec. 11, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for approximately 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. Aaron Bolser)
