The Pathology of Cm^diac Aiieiirlsms. 577 Cardiac aneurisms may occur at any age, but are muchmore common in middle and advanced than in early life. Pathology.—In the immense majority of cases, both acuteand chronic, the aneurismal dilatation is connected with thecavity of the left ventricle. This is, of course, only what wewould expect when it is remembered :—(i) that the left ven-tricle is much more frequently affected by acute ulcerativeendocarditis, acute myocarditis, and fibroid degeneration thanany of the other cardiac cavities ; (2) that the blood pressureiin the cavity of the left ventricle is very much greater thanin any other part of the organ. The conditions, therefore, forthe production of cardiac aneurisms are met with much morefrequently, and in a greater degree, in the cavity of the leftventricle than elsewhere. The aneurism is most frequently situated at the apex ofthe left ventricle, but it sometimes involves the septum andother parts of the wall of the left ventr
