Then why was she slapped and scoldedwhen she jumped on her mistress long trailingblue silk gown and tore the lace when it caughtin her claws? Oh dear, what have I done now? and sheran under the sofa to hide from the hard-heartedand harder handed French maid. Her mistress only played with her for a fewminutes at a time, when she fed her candy andother things that tasted good but always madeher sick afterward.
