Ida and William had a private suite on the 3rd floor. Here they had a bedroom and sitting room and an office for William McKinley. It was not long into their marriage that their two young children died at 4 months and 4 years old respectively from different illnesses. William McKinley intentionally wanted his office as close to his wife as possible to keep an eye on her delicate condition.
